STEPHEN PHILIPS - Otherworldly 2

Now available at Bandcamp.

bandcamp

Total Time: 60:00 approx

The Otherworldly releases cover some rather strange and droney landscapes. The original Otherworldly 1 was released back in 2000 as an extremely limited edition CDR which quickly went out of print, only to surface a few years later as a digital release. Otherworldy 2 came out in January of 2003, also as a limited edition CDR. After quickly selling out, it too went out of print, disappeared and has not been heard from since that time (until now). To make matters stranger, Otherworldly 3 was released as a digital-only release back in 2006, and then Otherworldy 4 followed in its footsteps in 2007 as a CD-only release. This entire series is well worth a deep listen, featuring experimental textures, ambient, drone, and some fascinating organ experiments. The entire set of releases fits nicely together and it's great to finally have all 4 volumes available at the same time, in the same place, for the first time in their existence.

After a 2 year long hiatus, the Installations series returns with another installment. Along the same lines as the CDs in the Cycles series which began back in 1996, this recording is part 4 of a series of virtual installation pieces, intended relaxation, meditation, sleep, whatever. This installment make for an excellent sleeper disc and has been used in this way for a long time by the creator of the music. This recording features lots of textured drone and minimal ambience, a warm sounds, a nice potpourri of sound.

Along the same lines as the CDs in the Cycles series which began back in 1996, this recording is part 3 of a new series of virtual installation pieces, intended for infinite playback. This installment could also make for an decent sleeper disc. This recording features lots of textured drone and minimal ambience, a nice potpourri of sound.

With washes of a soft effervescent glow of light this long-form work creates a serene and peaceful atmosphere, and a great sense of warmth, with which one could easily get lost. From Stephen Philips "Completing this work was a difficult task, as I frequently got so lost in the atmosphere that I lost my creative objectivity. This rarely happens when creating new music but it happened quite frequently with this piece. At times it really sucked me into the slow pace and quiet atmosphere and my stress level seemed to evaporate right away which allowed the piece to breath deeply in such a way as to take on a life of its own."

This release is only available as a downloadable and is also part of the installations box

1. Hard Shadows 79:06

HISTORY: Along the same lines as the CDs in the Cycles series which began back in 1996, this recording is part 1 of a new series of virtual installation pieces, intended for infinite playback. Unlike some of the other "infinite playback" discs, this one is designed and structured to playback infinitely with no distinct starting and stopping points...an ever evolving, ever mutating, ever shifting sound palate. Try hitting the repeat button on your CD player and just letting it go, or playback in repeat mode on your mp3 player.

While recorded at a moderately high volume, the track works best at low-levels. Setting the volume at a moderately high level on the recording assures proper playback even on devices with low-output or inadequate amplification.

This release is only available as a downloadable and is also part of the installations box

STEPHEN PHILIPS - Installations 2

1. Remember 56:20

HISTORY: Along the same lines as the CDs in the Cycles series which began back in 1996, this recording is part 2 of a new series of virtual installation pieces, intended for infinite playback. This installment also makes for an excellent "sleeper" disc. This disc was composed, recorded, and mastered with sound levels that slowly decrease to create a piece that drifts off into the night.

The recording starts at a moderately high volume with a long slow fade. It works best when started at a comfortable level. As it proceeds, the overall volume will drop to quieter levels.

This release is only available as a downloadable and is also part of the installations box
